Blackberry Smoke rock the Moody Theater in Austin Texas 12-10

Blackberry Smoke, who have long been the torchbearers for the new southern rock genre movement made an unexpected stop in the state capital of Austin, Texas for a blistering night of southern feel-good music. Blackberry Smoke has long fallen under the southern rock flag, but they are far from a one-trick pony, with a mix of classic blues, straight-up rock, Americana, and even a touch of jazz.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary of being a band BBS is still keeping things fresh as heard on the new album "You Hear Georgia" released earlier this year. Guitarist/lead singer Charlie Starr who is making waves in the guitar community as one of the best players out there, had the Austin crowd pumped the entire show. BBS has a die-hard fan base, with "brothers and sisters" often traveling across state lines to witness the always awesome live show.

BBS rarely plays the same set twice and with so much great material to pull from I can see why. On this night in "Willies House" the new album "You Hear Georgia" was well represented with of course the title track "You Hear Georgia" as well as the single "Hey Delilah". The twenty-one-song set featured plenty off the very successful album "The Whippoorwill" as well as music representing six of their studio albums. It was only fitting to play "Sunrise in Texas" while in Texas which was a big hit with the Austin crowd. It was a great night of live music filled with a few surprises. Charlie said let's play one for Willie and for the first time, I heard the Willie Nelson song "Yesterdays Wine" (which BBS covered on the 2009 album Little Pieces of Dixie) live. What a treat.

At the time of writing BBS are back home in Georgia preparing for the holidays and their last few shows of 2021. They will be hitting the road again early next year invading the UK then returning to the states in March. Look them up, they are worth your time and are one of the best live bands out there.
