Candlebox light up the Aztec Theater 10-14

Candlebox one of the unsung heroes of Seattle's grunge movement made its way to the Alamo city in support of their newest studio album "Wolves". It was a bit of a homecoming for singer Kevin Martin as he spent his pre and early teens growing up in San Antonio. For a Thursday night in a pandemic with Covid entry restrictions in place at the venue , it was quite a good turnout. Seems Candlebox and Kevin Martin have a special place in the hearts of San Antonio's rock community.

Slated for a 9:15 start tine the crowd was pumped and ready after openers

the Dead Deads got the crowd going with a mix of punk rock. alternative, hard rock, and grunge. They are a fun band with lots of unexpected twists and turns in their music.

The lights go down and the sounds of someone channel surfing on a radio with rock songs of the 90s playing just long enough to remember the good ol days of fm radio. Candlebox hits the stage with rockers "Arrow" and "Simple Lessons" The band looks and sounds great and singer Kevin Martin's voice is strong and powerful. This tour as well as being a greatest hits performance is in support of the killer new album "Wolves". Candlebox provides a taste of what the album is all about with offerings of "All Down Hill" the hard hitting "Let Me Down Easy" and the soulful ballad "Riptide".

We all know why we are here...to hear the rock/grunge classics off the debut self titled, hit filled album Candlebox. The 90s were not so long ago but, I forgot just how many singles this album contained. Songs like "Change", "Cover Me", and "You" are just as relevant and fresh today as they were then. Singer Kevin Martin was genuinely appreciative of the turn out and thanked the crowd for all the years of support . The 15 song , hour and a half set covered most of the bands discography, and includes a few surprises. Candlebox is one of the few surviving bands from the "grunge"era still doing it, and doing it well. I wont tell you what the last song they played last because i want you to be surprised but, the band killed it and the crowd loved it!
