Clutch, Eyehategod, Tiger Cub bring it to the Aztec Theater in San Antonio 3-20

Clutch brought along a couple of supporting bands for this leg of the tour. First off is the three-piece Tigercub, a band from across the pond with an industrial pop sound. The crowd wasn't quite sure how to react, warming up to them later in their set. Next up was Eyehategod an American sludge metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana who formed in 1988. They have become one of the better-known bands to emerge from the NOLA metal scene. Mike IX Williams and company played a Heavy, detuned, bluesy set. filled with walls of feedback, and tortured vocals.

Enough of the doom and gloom. CLUTCH. is hitting the stage next. There’s no doubt that Clutch has a reputation as being one of the best American Rock Bands on the scene today.

tonight they would prove it. The Aztec Theater was wall to wall with energy and the fans were hungry for the mix of blues, funk, and stoner rock that only Clutch can deliver.

Clutch’s live shows have become almost legendary. Not for anything gimmicky just good old-fashioned, blue-collar rock. With Neil Fallon’s insanely deep voice and demanding stage presence, they have honed their craft and are unique in today's rock music. Hitting the stage with “We Need Some Money” playing through the speakers, it was obvious that Clutch was in the building. Kicking off the night with the hard-hitting "The Mob Goes Wild" and "Subtle Hustle" to start the groove, that would last all evening.

The enthusiastic San Antonio crowd would eat up every bit of it. Clutch would play a 20 song set tonight, something almost unheard of by today's standards. The set varies vastly from city to city so, if they didn't play it tonight they will probably play it tomorrow or the next day. Most of the standards off of their 11 studio albums were indeed played including "The Regulator" "A Quick Death In Texas" and "X-Ray visions". Tonight they would not play two of my favorites. "Electric Worry" or "Fortunate Son" a CCR cover. The variations of the set can be a good thing as you might hear something that is rarely performed live.

Clutch delivered tonight, as they always do, by letting the music do the talking. No filler or fluff, just straight-ahead full-throttle rock and roll.

Clutch is: Neil Fallon - Vocals/Guitar, Jean-Paul Gaste - Drums, Dan Maines-Bass, Tim Sult -Guitar
