The "Young Guns" tour finally made its way to San Antonio after a brief postponement due to you know what. . Mammoth WVH and Dirty Honey would share headlining duties in this two for one musical treat with both bands playing full sets. On this night in Texas, Mammoth WVH would open the night.
Mammoth WVH, featuring Wolfgang Van Halen, son of legendary guitar god Eddie Van Halen, would come out blazing with "Mammoth" followed by Mr. Ed", both grooving guitar filled tunes. If you have never heard or seen Mammoth it will not be what you expect. No Van Halen sounding stuff here but, a fresh approach filled with 90s influences, big choruses, and catchy lyrics that you just don't hear much in today's rock music. You might hear a two-handed tap here and there if you are paying attention.
The music was tight with Wolfgang, playing both guitar and keyboards while carrying the band with his impressive vocal ability. The 12 song set consisted mostly of songs off of their debut "Mammoth WVH" album as well as a couple of brand new songs, including a kick-ass cover of "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains. Guitar-driven, radio friendly, straight-ahead modern rock is what Mammoth WVH brings to the table.

Up next was Dirty Honey a band that has made huge waves in the last two years, most recently being direct support of the "Black Crowes" Shake your moneymaker tour. Being a fan of both bands, I can see how the Crowes influence has rubbed off on Dirty Honey.
Dirty Honey hits the stage to "California Dreamin" off of their new album by the same name.
"Break you" and a crowd favorite "Heart Breaker" was up next. The band is sounding polished and looking quite at home on stage.
These guys are the real deal. If you think rock is dead, you need to give this band a listen. Rock and roll is alive and well and Dirty Honey is proof of it. If you're a fan of rock acts like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, and Pearl Jam, I think you'll love this band. There is a very obvious influence from all of those aforementioned artists. They sound fresh and yet pleasantly familiar at the same time. Dirty Honey like to throw in unique cover tunes in their set, tonight would be no exception. A rendition of Princes's "Lets Go Crazy "caught everyone off guard.
Everyone in the band got a chance to showcase their individual talents by taking a solo. just like they used to do in the good old days of rock and roll. "When I'm Gone" and "Rolling Sevens" would complete the set, much to the crowd's dismay. It was a great night of rock music in San Antonio with two of the best young rock bands out there.
