Foreigner brought the "Greatest Hits" tour to the beautiful Tobin Center in San Antonio on 4-29 to a rumored to be sold-out crowd. By the lack of empty seats in the venue, I would say that would be a fair assumption. Foreigner was in the house and the fans were ready for them.
The band hit the stage, diving right into “Double Vision” followed by the groovy "Head Games" which put most of the 50-something crowd on their feet, where they would remain. Subsequently, Foreigner pumped out one hit after another for the duration of the hour and a half set pausing occasionally to share stories and greetings; and boy we're the stories good.
Long-time "new" singer Kelly Hansen, brought with him the energy of a twenty-year-old to the stage. Hansen took over the lead spot in 2005 upon the exit of Lou Gramm in 2003. The 61 year-old Hanson whose birthday was the day before the show played to the fans and, displayed what it is to be an entertaining and talented lead singer.
Throughout the night, Hansen and company pulled out all the songs a fan would love to hear hits like “Dirty White Boy”, “Jukebox Hero”, and “Feels Like The First Time" which were all covered to perfection. I have seen Foreigner several times with several different line ups and they never fail to deliver.
Before they wrapped the night with “Hot Blooded”, Foreigner brought up the John Jay High School choir to join them for “I Wanna Know What Love Is”, something they have been doing for quite some time now and the thrill of a lifetime for the kids in the choir. What’s more, it was all for a great cause, benefiting Shriners Hospital.
After forty-plus years of making music Foreigner still brings it to the stage with a fun, entertaining show, filled with all thrill and no fill.
