GWAR invaded Vibes 5-31 for an evening of painting the town red, bringing along extreme metal band Goatwhore, as well as melodic death metal group Necrogoblikon, and The Native Howl for an extreme night of music. GWAR will be supporting their new concept album "The New Dark Ages" set to be released on June 3. The album concept is tied to a companion graphic novel, “GWAR In the Duoverse of Absurdity,” which will also be released by Z2 Comics on July 15th. In the graphic novel the band are sucked off into an alternate universe to do battle with their evil twins and the specter of rogue technology.
Supporting bands, Goatwhore, Necrogoblikon, and Native Howl, played their part to warm up the diverse crowd for the slumdogs of the universe- the mighty GWAR. The crowd, however, was the catalyst in this ceremony with the constant chants of “GWAR! GWAR! GWAR!” billowing from the crowd. White shirts lined the rail, as young and old were patiently waiting for their own personal souvenir t-shirt to be created.

As Black Sabbaths "War Pigs blasts over the sound system the anticipation in the air kept growing as it got closer to the arrival of the infamous intergalactic warriors. GWAR, known for their wild on-stage antics, generally kick off the show with the brutal demise of a costumed figure, usually resembling the current commander in chief. Tonight was no exception, giving the crowd their first taste of "blood" on a night that would be full of it.
Kicking the show off with "Let Us Slay" and "Sick of You "gave the crowd just what they needed to commence the crowd surfing. This rabid fanbase was something else to witness, especially a fanbase that is this fervent after 30 years from the release of the iconic GWAR "Slumdogs" album. The interplanetary warriors tore through a blistering, heavy, fun set featuring fan favorites from their albums "Ragnarok", "Carnival of Chaos", and "Scumdogs of the Universe"
GWAR unleashed 3 new songs off the new album "The New Dark Ages" "Berserker Mode", Mother Fucking Liar" and "Ratcatcher" to the frenzied crowd. The band pretty much played a song from every album they have released in their 35 years in existence. The show was filled with political satire, pop culture, tongue-in-cheek dry humor and relevant media icons - being brutalized and murdered on stage for the enjoyment of the crowd. What else would you expect from a GWAR show?
