Halestorm performs at Tech Port Arena in San Antonio Tx 9-29

Lzzy Hale brought the thunder to the Tech Port Arena in San Antonio bringing along The Warning and Anaheim, California's New Years Day for a killer night of female-fronted rock.

Opening the show was The Warning a Mexican rock band from Monterrey, Nuevo León, formed in 2013 by the Villarreal Vélez sisters: Daniela (guitar, lead vocals, piano), Paulina (drums, lead and backing vocals, piano), and Alejandra (bass guitar, piano, backing vocals). Performing for the first time in San Antonio, the ladies brought their hard rock -alternative sound to an enthusiastic crowd, kicking off things with a bang.

New Year's Day was up next Their nine-song set was an absolutely grinding gift to the metal gods. Ash Costello and her friends in New Year’s Day mesmerized the audience, while their larger-than-life sound filled the arena. In a tribute to Dimebag Darrell Abbott the band ripped into a cover of Pantera's "Fucking Hostile" which is always a good move when in Texas.

Halestorm hit the stage, opening with a thundering new track “Back From the Dead,” wasting no time digging into songs off their 2022 release by the same name. The band kept its set upbeat and riff-heavy, focusing on its heaviest rockers in an impressive18-song set. Lzzy Hale absolutely killed it in the vocal dept. hitting notes I didn't think possible. There seemed to be no limits, from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows.

Hale, along with fellow guitar slinger Joe Hottinger, bassist Josh Smith, and drummer Arejay Hale, Halestorm ripped through songs like “Do Not Disturb” and “I Get Off.” As if being an outstanding frontwoman and killer vocalist isn't enough, Hale is also quite the accomplished guitar player in her own right, matching Hottinger’s solos multiple times on the handful of extended jams the band mixed into the set. A real highlight of the evening for me was Lzzy and a piano for a heartfelt rendition of" Raise Your Horns" Areyjay Hale, ( Lzzys little brother ) performed a lively drum solo (including an appearance of his oversized drumsticks. The band concluded the set with the fun rocker “I Like It Heavy”. The band would do a two-song encore finishing the evening with “Heres to Us” and “The Steeple"
