German industrial metal legends Rammstein brought the fire and the fury to the Alamo city for what would be a feast for the senses. It was a mixture of Cirque du Soleil meets a rock concert, with chest-thumping bass and an unbelievable stage and light show. The Rammstein experience was definitely a bucket list show for me. This show was two years in the making due to postponement and rescheduling due to you know what. The Alamodome would respond with a crowd of 44,000 diverse hardcore fans.
I probably don't need to tell anyone how awesome the pyro was or how cool the stage setup was but, it was awesome and grand. The band would play a long two-and-a-half-hour set consisting of a few newer songs as well as all the hits that we all know and love. Kicking off the show with new songs “Armee der Tristen” and “Zick Zack,” followed by old classics “Links 2-3-4,” “Sehnsucht,” and “Mein Herz brennt.” Obviously, the highlight of the night would be the performance of their biggest hit by far, "Du Hast." The stadium was treated to an extraordinary display of synchronized fire and lights. This song alone was worth the price of admission.
A Rammstein show is truly a unique experience. It's a rock show and a theater performance wrapped into one. Singing most of their songs in their native language of German, it seem as though language wasn't a barrier as I witnessed hundreds of people singing right along, certain they knew what they were saying...or not. It's nice to see music be so positive in bringing such a diversity of people together for the same purpose. A show like this is such a spectacle that I'm not sure it can be topped or repeated, so if you got to see it, consider yourself lucky, and if you want to see it better do it now. There might not be a next time.
