It seems the beautiful Texas hill country would be a unlikely setting for a legendary rock band to celebrate a 25 anniversary of a classic album, but it was indeed the case. After the Covid lay-off, REO Speedwagon hit the road again for a performance at The Round Up live music venue, in Boerne, Texas. If you were there to see REO play pop music off “Hi Infidelity” you would be sadly mistaken. Sure they played the hits Tough Guys, Take it on the run and Keep on loving you, however, from the opening song, it was clear that REO 2021 decided to remind everyone that they are a rock n roll band. They blistered their way through songs off “REO Two” and “You get what you play for”, "Nine Lives, and "Tune a Piano". They sounded great and had a hard edged ,polished sound to them. Dave Amato's soulful playing was right on the money. Mr. Amato brings along quite the guitar show on the road with him these days., changing guitars virtually after every song. Drums and keyboards were crisp and powerful. The venue was packed with quite the mix of an audience. Young and old. It was a pleasant surprise to hear the mix of songs from the early to mid 70s REO catalog. Songs like Son of a Poorman, Back on the Road Again, Roll w the Changes, Keep Pushin On, Ridin’ the Storm Out, and Time for Me to Fly were spot on, and quite a treat. As a long time fan ,this was my first time seeing REO live. I must say it certainly was a trip down memory lane. The band is fantastic and the music is done well. My only regret was waiting this long to witness it.
