Review: Steve Vai performs at The Aztec Theatre in San Antonio, Tx.

Steve Vai returned to the stage after a three-plus year absence. Touring in support of his latest LP, Inviolate. The Aztec Theater in San Antonio was ready for the Guitar Gods' return.

Along with Vai on the run is his long-time touring band consisting of, Dave Weiner, on guitar and keys, Philip Bynoe on bass guitar, and Jeremy Colsonon on drums.

This group of outstanding musicians brings chemistry to the stage that is clear to see.Vai would give each of these players would get their own time in the spotlight as they all had individual solos to showcase their individual talents.

Vai put on a master class in guitar playing and innovation, burning through a two-hour show with numbers from throughout his extensive catalog. Vai makes it look so easy and effortless pulling out song after song covering everything from jazzy numbers to full-out speed shread. There is nothing this guy can't play.

It's always a good time to see fellow guitar geeks wide-eyed and mesmerized watching in amazement as Vai pulls out one flashy guitar lick after another, leaving no stone unturned. This night was for the aspiring guitar hero, the casual guitar instrumental fan, or the person that just needs a little inspiration and encouragement. (or discouragement) Vai delivered a mind-blowing performance for the ages and certainly did not disappoint.
