Styx rock Floores Country Store- Helotes-Texas

Just outside San Antonio is a legendary Honky Talk. Floores Country Store a venue usually reserved for country music artists would be the unlikely location to host the legendary Styx, in support of their new album "Crash of the Crown", which was released early this summer. This was a make up date for a show that had to be cancelled due to you know what. Judging by the size of the near capacity crowd, Texas was ready to move forward and leave their troubles behind, at least for a little while. A beautiful Texas night , under the stars, with arena rock gods Styx in the house...What else can you ask for?

Guitarists Tommy Shaw and James Young, were joined on stage by third guitarist and long time Styx producer Will Evankovich for a guitar trifecta. Lawrence Gowan (keys/piano) would play MC as well as being the epitome of the rock and roll front man. spinning keyboards, standing on top of them and playing with his back to the board. This show itself is worth the price of admission. Styx showed why its music and showmanship continue to draw capacity audiences.

The show would begin with “The Fight of Our Lives”, one of four new songs the band would perform from the band’s 17th studio album ,"The Crash of the Crown". A testimony to perseverance and a song that is a perfect show opener. Straight out of the gate Styx hit it hard with "Blue Collar Man" followed by "The Grand Illusion" and slowing it down for crowd favorite "Lady".

The evening would continue with many beloved classic rock hits like “Light Up” and "Crystal Ball" keeping the crowd moving and on their feet. Tommy Shaw told the story of the birth of

Styx to revealed bassist and founding member Chuck Panozzo, who made a guest appearance on the compelling “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)”

“Suite Madame Blue” was done to perfection , Tommy's lead vocals and the harmonies were outstanding. “Too Much Time on My Hands” it seems has quite the story attached to it, something about a bar and a church. I wont spoil it for you. "Come Sail Away" would end the 1 1/2 hour set for the evening.. Unless there was an encore.

What's a Styx concert without the most beloved or hated Styx song of all time? Indeed, "Mr. Roboto" would whip the crowd into a frenzy. "Renegade" would end our evening with the mighty Styx. What a great ending to a awesome night in Texas. A greatest hits set, sprinkled with a handful of song from the new album "Crash The Crown", soaring harmonies and a high energy stage show. Catch Styx when you can, Maybe Tommy will tell you the rest of the church story...
